User Generated Content & Submission Policy

Last updated: 14/07/2026

This User-Generated Content & Submission Policy applies to all content submitted to Murder Mittens Survivors Club, including incident reports, cat photographs, videos, captions, stories, comments, messages, reviews, testimonials, case notes, archive submissions, and social media tags or mentions.

In this policy, “MMSC”, “we”, “us” and “our” means Murder Mittens Survivors Club. “Submission” means any content you send, upload, tag, message, email, post, or otherwise provide to us for possible review, publication, sharing, adaptation, or archive use.

MMSC exists to document the experience of living with cats. It does not exist to encourage harm, fear, distress, neglect, dangerous behaviour, or staged incidents for content.

No photograph, joke, post, feature, or archive entry is worth putting an animal or person at risk.

1. What You Can Submit

We welcome genuine, safe, domestic feline content, including:

  • ordinary cat behaviour;
  • humorous household incidents;
  • survivor testimony;
  • non-graphic scratches, damage, displacement, theft, ambush, judgement, or suspicious positioning;
  • photographs or videos of cats behaving naturally;
  • evidence-style images of damaged or displaced household objects;
  • written accounts of feline escalation, surveillance, territorial control, confiscation, or other recognisable incidents;
  • cat names, subject descriptions, and household observations;
  • comments, reviews, and responses to MMSC products, posts, archive entries, and Field Equipment.

Submissions should be real, safe, respectful, and based on events that happened without deliberately causing distress, risk, injury, conflict, or fear.

2. What You Must Not Submit

You must not submit content that includes, encourages, promotes, rewards, or appears to show:

  • animal cruelty, abuse, neglect, abandonment, or deliberate fear;
  • cats being provoked, chased, trapped, restrained, startled, or forced into behaviour for content;
  • staged “attacks” or staged incidents designed to make a cat react;
  • unsafe handling of cats or other animals;
  • cat fights, forced interaction between animals, or content encouraging conflict between cats;
  • content encouraging retaliation, punishment, intimidation, or harm against cats;
  • graphic injury to animals or humans;
  • dangerous environments created for the purpose of filming or photographing;
  • cats placed near hazards, including unsafe heights, open flames, toxic substances, roads, machinery, electrical risks, sharp objects, or unsecured water hazards;
  • advice that contradicts basic animal welfare, veterinary guidance, or responsible ownership;
  • illegal activity;
  • harassment, threats, hate speech, bullying, or abusive behaviour;
  • private personal information, including addresses, phone numbers, financial information, workplace details, or identifying information about people who have not agreed to be included;
  • images or videos of children unless you are the parent/legal guardian or have clear permission from the parent/legal guardian;
  • content that infringes another person’s copyright, privacy, trade mark, publicity rights, or other rights;
  • content copied from another person, account, website, photographer, artist, brand, or publication without permission.

MMSC may also reject content that does not fit the tone, safety standards, visual style, or purpose of the Archive.

3. Do Not Create Incidents for Content

MMSC is interested in genuine domestic observations, not staged danger.

You must not deliberately create, escalate, provoke, or repeat an incident in order to submit content to us.

This includes deliberately annoying a cat, withholding care, blocking access to essentials, encouraging scratching or biting, provoking a reaction, placing a cat somewhere unsafe, forcing contact, or setting up conflict between animals or between a cat and a person.

If an incident happens naturally, prioritise safety and welfare first. Content comes second.

4. Animal Welfare Comes First

By submitting content, you confirm that:

  • the cat or animal shown was not harmed, distressed, neglected, trapped, provoked, or placed at risk for the purpose of creating the content;
  • any animal shown is being treated responsibly and humanely;
  • the content does not encourage others to put animals at risk;
  • you understand that MMSC may refuse or remove content if we believe it conflicts with animal welfare, responsible ownership, or the spirit of this policy.

MMSC may use humour, archive language, and exaggerated “survivor” framing, but this is not an invitation to mistreat animals or promote fear-based handling.

5. Ownership of Your Submission

You keep ownership of the content you submit, subject to any rights owned by others.

By submitting content to MMSC, you confirm that:

  • you created the content or have the right to submit it;
  • you have permission from anyone else who owns rights in the content;
  • you have permission from any identifiable person shown or named in the content;
  • if a child appears or is identified, you have the authority to give permission on their behalf;
  • your submission does not breach any agreement, law, or third-party right.

Do not submit professional photographs, commissioned images, screenshots, social media posts, memes, artwork, music, video clips, or written material unless you own them or have clear permission to allow MMSC to use them.

6. How MMSC May Use Your Submission

By submitting content to MMSC, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, edit, adapt, publish, display, distribute, archive, and share your submission in connection with MMSC.

This may include use on or in:

  • the MMSC website;
  • Shopify store pages;
  • blog posts and archive pages;
  • Incident Records;
  • Subject Dossiers;
  • Survival Doctrine entries;
  • Evidence Locker entries;
  • product pages;
  • email newsletters;
  • social media posts;
  • paid or organic advertising;
  • printed archive issues;
  • zines, booklets, inserts, cards, packaging, labels, and other physical materials;
  • promotional graphics;
  • press, media, stockist, or launch materials;
  • future MMSC products, campaigns, collections, or publications.

We may edit submissions for length, clarity, spelling, grammar, formatting, tone, layout, safety, privacy, or brand consistency. We may crop images, adjust colour, add captions, anonymise details, or adapt a submission into MMSC archive-style language.

We will not knowingly change the meaning of your submission in a way that falsely represents what happened.

7. Attribution

Where practical, we may credit you using:

  • your first name;
  • your chosen display name;
  • your social media handle;
  • your cat’s name;
  • “Submitted by a survivor”;
  • “Anonymous survivor”;
  • another agreed attribution format.

MMSC decides whether and how attribution appears. We may remove or reduce attribution where needed for privacy, safety, layout, moderation, or legal reasons.

If you want to remain anonymous, tell us clearly when submitting.

8. Payment and Compensation

Unless we agree otherwise in writing, submissions are voluntary and unpaid.

Submitting content does not entitle you to payment, royalties, free products, discounts, approval, publication, ongoing credit, or a share of any revenue generated by MMSC.

9. Publication Is Not Guaranteed

Submission does not guarantee that your content will be published, shared, featured, archived, printed, replied to, or used.

MMSC may accept, reject, edit, hold, remove, archive, or delete submissions at our discretion.

We may also delay publication, combine submissions into a wider feature, or use a submission at a later date.

10. Removing or Withdrawing a Submission

You may contact us to request that we stop using your submission in future.

Where reasonably possible, we will remove unpublished content or stop using the submission in new digital materials.

However, you understand that we may not be able to remove content that has already been printed, manufactured, shipped, archived, reposted by others, indexed, backed up, included in completed publications, or otherwise used before your request.

If your request relates to personal data, privacy, copyright, safety, or legal rights, we will review it in line with applicable law.

11. Privacy and Personal Information

Please do not include personal information that is not necessary to the submission.

Avoid submitting:

  • full names of other people;
  • home addresses;
  • phone numbers;
  • email addresses;
  • school, workplace, or shift details;
  • precise location information;
  • vehicle registrations;
  • private medical information;
  • images of children;
  • images of people who have not agreed to be included.

If we receive a submission containing unnecessary personal information, we may edit, blur, crop, anonymise, reject, or remove it.

12. Reviews, Comments and Social Media Tags

If you tag MMSC, mention MMSC, comment on our posts, leave a review, reply to a prompt, or use an MMSC campaign hashtag, we may contact you to ask permission to feature your content.

Where a platform’s tools allow sharing, reposting, quoting, stitching, duetting, embedding, or replying, we may use those platform features in line with that platform’s terms and this policy.

For wider use outside the platform where the content was posted, we may ask for additional permission where appropriate.

13. Safety Review and Moderation

MMSC may review submissions before or after publication.

We may reject, edit, hide, remove, restrict, or report content where we believe it:

  • breaches this policy;
  • could encourage unsafe behaviour;
  • could harm an animal or person;
  • could expose private information;
  • could infringe someone’s rights;
  • could damage the safety or integrity of the MMSC community;
  • is misleading, abusive, malicious, fraudulent, or submitted in bad faith.

MMSC is not required to publish an explanation for every rejected submission, but we may provide one where appropriate.

14. What Happens If This Policy Is Breached

If we believe this policy has been breached, MMSC may take one or more of the following steps:

  1. Hold the submission for review
    We may pause review, publication, sharing, printing, or use of the submission while we assess the issue.
  2. Ask for clarification or evidence
    We may contact you to ask how the content was created, whether permission was obtained, whether an animal or person was safe, or whether you own the necessary rights.
  3. Edit or anonymise the submission
    Where appropriate, we may remove identifying details, crop images, blur faces, remove location clues, change names, or edit wording.
  4. Reject the submission
    We may refuse to use content that does not meet this policy.
  5. Remove published content
    If a breach is discovered after publication, we may remove, hide, unlist, archive, or stop promoting the content.
  6. Restrict future submissions
    We may block, mute, restrict, or decline future submissions from individuals, accounts, email addresses, or sources that repeatedly breach this policy.
  7. Cancel participation in campaigns or features
    We may remove a person from a feature, campaign, giveaway, callout, submission drive, or archive project if the policy is breached.
  8. Report serious concerns
    If content appears to show serious animal cruelty, credible threats, illegal activity, exploitation, safeguarding concerns, or immediate risk to a person or animal, we may report the matter to the relevant platform, service provider, authority, or welfare organisation.
  9. Protect MMSC’s rights and community
    Where necessary, we may preserve relevant records, respond to legal complaints, cooperate with rights holders, defend against claims, or take other lawful steps to protect MMSC, contributors, customers, animals, and the wider community.

We will not use this process to silence genuine welfare concerns, valid copyright complaints, privacy requests, or lawful criticism.

15. Reporting a Problem

If you believe a submission used by MMSC:

  • belongs to you and was used without permission;
  • includes you or your child without consent;
  • shows animal cruelty, distress, neglect, or unsafe behaviour;
  • contains private personal information;
  • breaches this policy;
  • should be corrected, anonymised, credited differently, or removed;

please contact us at:

Email: murdermittenssurvivorsclub@gmail.com

Whatsapp: +44 7566 793004

Please include:

  • a link, screenshot, or description of the content;
  • your relationship to the content;
  • the issue you are raising;
  • any evidence that helps us understand the matter;
  • what outcome you are requesting.

We will review reports in good faith and take appropriate action.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time.

The version published on our website at the time of submission will usually apply to that submission, unless a change is required for legal, safety, welfare, privacy, or rights-protection reasons.

17. Submission Statement

By submitting content to MMSC, you confirm that you have read and understood this policy and that your submission complies with it.

You also confirm that no animal or person was harmed, placed at risk, provoked, frightened, or exploited for the purpose of creating the content.

The incident may be ridiculous.

The welfare standard is not.
